BY MICHAEL SOZE
The master of gay comics, Ralf König, is the new comic artist of Boner Magazine! Every month he will draw and tell new stories exclusively for Boner Magazine. And we are very happy to have him in our team!
Ralf, first of all thank you very much for being a part of Boner Magazine. Why don’t you tell us what brought you to us?
I haven’t drawn any short stories for years, not since MEN have been around, only the thick comic novels for Rowohlt or Männerschwarm. I’ve missed the serial format, simply because such a two-page spread is sometimes a quicker sense of achievement than months of work on the books. You can pick up on what’s going on in the scene right now. But above all:
At BONER I have complete freedom to do dirty things. I mean 18 and up. I can’t believe I lived to see this.
Please tell us a little more about the story. You created a new line for the Boner called „Asparagus.“ What’s it about? Who is the main character and what can we expect in the coming episodes?
Yes, ‚Asparagus‘ sounds strange for a character, but it’s long and thin and white, so all friends call it asparagus. Like the Asparagus Tarzan.
The only thing fat about him is his cock, but that doesn’t make him happy either.
He hangs a little bit on the nose ring of his testosterone, falls in love with horny guys all the time and gets the frustration. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be funny. Oh, and he’s got a dog, a French bulldog, the dog thinks his piece. The rest bit by bit, it’s fun to think of the characters that come along.
Meanwhile, you are celebrating an anniversary: 40 years as a comic illustrator. What do you remember most fondly about that time?
Whew. I remember the ’90s. I remember it fondly. After the ‚Moving Man‘ it went through the roof for a couple of years at the latest, which is hard to imagine today. Today people prefer to stare at their smartphones instead of buying books.
You also like to draw boners – as our December cover clearly shows. Why is it still such a problem for many media to let naked facts speak in an artistic way? Are we really still so prudish?
Oh, pornography remains in the dirty corner despite the huge market and the internet, that’s probably okay. A little bit of shame and uptightness is also part of it, otherwise I wouldn’t have so much fun scratching at the taboos. It’s just cool to draw cocks and asses, and I have gay readers at BONER who appreciate that too.
